The best foods for maintaining good eye health are red and orange fruits and vegetables. This is due to its content of vitamin A and provitamin A (beta-carotene), both with preventive and beneficial properties for vision. They also contain significant amounts of vitamin C with antioxidant effects.

Likewise, fruits and vegetables in general are rich in B vitamins, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the nervous system and the transmission of information to the brain. Other substances necessary for good eye health are lutein and zeaxanthin, two pigments that we can also find in many orange and green fruits and vegetables.

To take care of the visual health of children, it has been established that 60 percent of vitamin A intake must come from the diet, that is, we must ingest carotenoids from food. The consumption of 2.1 mg daily of beta-carotene in the form of supplements can also be recommended.

The best way to take advantage of vitamin A is to eat red-orange fruits, vegetables, such as peaches, carrots, oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes and mangoes. They should be consumed raw as fresh fruits, but children also take them very well in juices and are highly recommended.

In porridges and purees, carrot and pumpkin, mixed with potato, zucchini and leek, are also delicious for the palate of children due to their sweet taste.
